Laser hair removal is a process of removing hair by way of intense pulses of laser light, which literally destroys the root of the hair. It was first done experimentally for nearly twenty years prior to being commercially available. The treatment is also known as Phototherapy. The hair is first frozen off with cryotherapy, then an area of skin is treated with a pulsing light that destroys the dead hair. A temporary burn-like effect is felt and the effect may last up to four weeks. It is a painless procedure but can be quite uncomfortable.
Although there have been very few reported side effects, it is possible they could occur. The most common side effect is skin color change, or skin discoloration. As many as one-third of all people will experience some form of discoloration to some degree. Of those that do not experience color change, they may notice redness and swelling for a day or two.

Removal of hair using laser offers a safe and effective solution to permanent removal of hair follicles. Once the procedure is completed, patients may notice a slight burning sensation. Side effects such as these are usually mild and fade away on their own.
How many sessions does one need to remove hair?
The procedure works by targeting hair when it’s undergoing its active growth stage. Since not all follicles will be actively growing at the same time, multiple sessions are required to treat all the hair in a targeted area.
How long before results show?
Patients can expect results to show after each session. The final result will only be visible once all sessions have been completed. Through out the process patients might still need to shave, wax, pluck treated areas. This will continue until the treatment is completed.
It should be noted that light touch-ups are required in the future to keep hair growth at minimal.
